GOVERNORS

The role of the Governing Body is to provide strategic leadership and accountability in school. We are responsible for the appointment of the head teacher and deputy head teacher and one of us will be present at interviews of all prospective staff.

It is governors who hold the main responsibility for finance in the school and we will work with the head teacher to make decisions about balancing resources, applications for leave of absence during term time and the future of the school. Decisions are the joint responsibility of the governing body.

The role of the governing body is a strategic one.  Its key functions are to:

set the aims and objectives for the school
set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
be a source of challenge and support to the head teacher (a critical friend)

CHAIR’S STATEMENT

I am keen to ensure every child is supported to achieve their potential whilst at William Booth Primary School. This requires a team effort from all involved in the children’s lives.  Parents, school staff and governors are all important to ensure the children achieve. Together we can ensure the children get a well-rounded education that gives them the best possible start to their lives.

The school has a team of dedicated staff who are committed to ensuring the children achieve their full potential whilst at William Booth. They work very hard to deliver a comprehensive curriculum for all of the children.

As governors we have responsibility for:-

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  2. Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and ensuring its money is well spent.

We do this through a range of activities including six full governing body meetings, sub-committees and regular monitoring visits to school; as well as attending school activities such as leavers assemblies, parents evenings and other school events.

The school’s ethos of “Believe to Achieve” is important to all involved in the school. For the children they need to believe in themselves to achieve and for adults, through believing in our children, we can enable them to achieve.

I am really proud to be the Chair of Governors at William Booth and I am determined to support the school’s ongoing development. I can be contacted via the school office or by email.
